Chinese authorities have said the country’s coal miners pledged to sell at a discount after Beijing intervened in the energy markets to ease a domestic power crunch.
China has been grappling with an energy crisis that has caused blackouts and forced factories to close for as many as four days a week, undermining economic growth.
Miners across the country’s three leading coal-producing provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia this week pledged to cut prices, according to the National Development and Reform Commission, the economic planning agency, adding that more than 10 big coal companies had reduced prices.
