Donald Trump accused Democrats of trying to “steal the election” during an unscheduled appearance at the Republican National Convention shortly after he received the party’s presidential nomination on Monday.
In a surprise address on the first day of the party’s convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr Trump renewed his unsubstantiated attacks on voting by mail in front of a small crowd of delegates who greeted his remarks with whooping and cheering.
Mr Trump said: “This is stealing millions of votes. We’re going to win this election. The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election.”
