China will defend its Belt and Road Initiative against charges that it creates debt traps, as it welcomes the heads of 37 states to a summit in Beijing this week.
An estimated 5,000 foreign officials and business delegates are expected to attend the two-day Belt and Road forum, which starts on Thursday in Beijing.
Top guests include President Vladimir Putin of Russia and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte of Italy, the first G7 country to endorse Chinese president Xi Jinping’s signature foreign policy.
