The mayor of Los Angeles has pledged to keep his city open for business with China despite the dark clouds hanging over Sino-US relations.
Eric Garcetti said Los Angeles still aimed to be the “l(fā)eading Chinese city in America for investment”, as his administration grapples with an escalating trade war between Washington and Beijing, restrictions on Chinese investments and the unpredictability of Donald Trump, US president.
“We have closely integrated economies, closely integrated cultures and closely integrated geography,” said Mr Garcetti, who runs the second-biggest metropolitan economy in the US and is considering running to be the Democratic party’s presidential nominee in 2020.
