Facebook is planning to open a new technology hub in China as the social media giant looks to expand its presence in the world’s most populous country despite its main platform being blocked by the Chinese government.
The California-based company has set up a Chinese subsidiary to create an “innovation hub” in Zhejiang, just south of Shanghai, to support Chinese developers and start-ups in the country.
The move is the latest sign that US tech giants are finding ways to access the massive Chinese market despite their key services being blocked because of Beijing’s strict censorship laws.
