President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he accepts the US intelligence community's conclusion that Russia meddled in the 2016 elections, maintaining that he misspoke during his appearance the previous day with Vladimir Putin.
The reversal came after Mr Trump appeared to agree with Mr Putin’s denial that Moscow interfered in the US race, triggering outrage in his own Republican Party and among law enforcement, diplomatic and intelligence officials in his administration.
"I accept our intelligence community's conclusion that Russia's meddling in the 2016 election took place,” Mr Trump said, reading from a statement. “Could be other people also. A lot of people out there. There was no collusion at all.”
