US president Donald Trump said his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will take place in Singapore next month, as the two countries lay the groundwork for high-stakes discussions over denuclearisation.
The US president tweeted that the meetings would take place on June 12. “We will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace!” Mr Trump said.
The announcement came hours after Mr Trump welcomed three American prisoners who had been held in North Korea and declared their release a sign of Mr Kim’s good intentions towards the US.
