Brussels has opened a new front in its trade wranglings with China with an investigation of alleged illegal subsidies for electric bicycle imports.
The European Commission said this week it would examine whether Chinese e-bike manufacturers are being given state financial support, which is prohibited by global trade rules and could lead to the imposition of tariffs.
A separate EU probe is looking into whether e-bikes from China are being dumped at low prices.
