Beijing over the weekend moved to limit the fallout from a child abuse scandal at a private kindergarten which shocked the country, detaining a teacher and punishing several people for spreading “fake news” about the incident online.
The controversy surrounding RYB Education erupted on Thursday after parents circulated pictures of what they alleged were needle marks on their children. Others said toddlers at the Red-Yellow-Blue Kindergarten in eastern Beijing had been given white pills before nap time.
Beijing police on Saturday said they had detained a 22-year-old teacher at the kindergarten surnamed Liu “on suspicion of abusing those under her care.
