China said it is considering additional UN measures to rein in North Korea’s fast advancing nuclear programme, but stopped short of endorsing a draft US proposal to ban oil imports.
“Given the new developments on the Kor?ean peninsula, China agrees that the UN Security Council should make a further response and take necessary measures,” Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said yesterday, without elaborating.
The US is calling for new UN sanctions against North Korea, including a ban on oil imports, textile exports and the em?ployment of North Koreans overseas in the wake of its sixth, largest nuclear test at the weekend.
