A labour activist investigating a factory in China that makes shoes for the Ivanka Trump fashion brand has been detained by police and two of his colleagues are missing, according to the US-based campaign group that employs them.
Li Qiang of China Labor Watch, who last made contact with the activists on Saturday, said they were about to conclude a three-month undercover investigation into suppliers to the brand owned by the elder daughter of Donald Trump, US president.
“We have investigated hundreds of factories over 17 years,” Mr Li said. “We have investigated many other American firms. This is the first time any of our investigators have been detained under a criminal process.”
