In the south Florida city of Sunny Isles Beach, Donald Trump is more than the US president. He is an inspiration for a former business partner who is now working on his own to put Mr Trump’s real estate strategies into practice.
The old associate is Gil Dezer, 41, president of Dezer Development, a property firm founded by his Israeli-born father Michael that has put Mr Trump’s name — in return for undisclosed fees — on six towers in Sunny Isles, a community of nearly 21,000 people just north of Miami.
An admirer of Mr Trump since he wrote a seventh-grade book report on The Art of the Deal, Mr Dezer is currently bringing condominiums with Porsche and Armani themes to Sunny Isles, all the while giving the president credit for developing the idea that property can be branded in the manner of consumer goods.
