South Korea’s environment ministry said on Monday that it will fine Nissan Won330m ($280,000) and file a criminal complaint against the Japanese carmaker’s local head of operations for allegedly manipulating emissions tests.
The ministry conducted emissions tests on 20 different models of diesel cars after finding in November that Germany’s Volkswagen had falsified emissions tests.
The investigation by the South Korean government found that Nissan allegedly used a so-called defeat device for its Qashqai sport utility vehicle that turned off the emissions management system under regular driving conditions.
