North Korea has launched a long-range rocket, according to officials in Seoul, in a move likely to damage its relations with South Korea and the US.
The timing of the launch on Wednesday took the South Korean government by surprise, a foreign ministry spokesperson said.
North Korea said on Monday that it had extended the time window for the launch until December 29, blaming technical problems. It had previously said that the launch would take place between December 10 and 22.
