China has achieved “impressive results” co-operating with Pyongyang on economic zones in North Korea, Beijing said on Tuesday, indicating that its impoverished, isolated neighbour is considering economic reforms.
The announcement by the Chinese ministry of commerce followed bilateral talks with Chang Sung-taek, a senior official in the Korean Workers’ Party and uncle of Kim Jong-eun, the country’s ruler, in Beijing.
Beijing said the co-operation had “entered the stage of substantial development” and the two sides signed agreements about managing the zones and agricultural co-operation.
