Fierce fighting in Syria spilt across two borders yesterday, undermining hopes for a UN-sponsored peace plan due to be implemented today.
On the eve of a UN deadline for the Syrian government to withdraw its troops from populated areas, its forces were reported to have shot and wounded four people in a Turkish refugee camp and killed a Lebanese cameraman in north Lebanon. Regime forces also killed at least 30 people when they pounded a town in the central province of Hama, activists said.
China, which with Russia has vetoed two western-backed UN resolutions on Syria, called yesterday for all sides to implement the UN plan.
