Iran ratcheted up tensions with the west yesterday, sending oil prices higher, when it implied it would take military action if the US Navy moves an aircraft carrier back into the Gulf.
In the latest sign of discord over the future of the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit point for oil, Iran stated that it did not want to see Washington redeploying an aircraft carrier in the Gulf region.
The US responded sharply to Iran’s move, saying the deployment of US military assets in the Gulf region “will continue as it has for decades”.
