Liam Fox’s future as defence secretary could be settled on Monday after David Cameron demanded to see an urgent report into the minister’s relationship with Adam Werritty, who was best man at his wedding.
The move came after the defence secretary – who was in Libya on Saturday – faced fresh questions over his judgment in allowing his former flatmate to broker a private meeting with a company seeking to transfer sensitive communications technology to Libya’s rebels.
Mr Cameron has ordered an interim report by the Ministry of Defence’s permanent secretary, into whether he had breached security regulations following revelations that Mr Werritty had visited the MoD’s headquarters 14 times in the past 16 months, to be on his desk by Monday.
