Baidu, China’s largest online search company by revenue, has reached a deal with three of the world’s largest music rights holders to offer their songs for free download.
The agreement with One Stop China, a joint venture between Universal Music, Warner Music and Sony Music, lays to rest years of fighting between the Chinese company, which accounts for the lion’s share of Chinese internet traffic, and the global music industry.
It has also raised hopes that it could deal a significant blow to copyright infringement on the Chinese internet overall.
