Everything is set for the return of students to the Mead Educational Trust next week, bar one — serious — problem: there are not enough teachers.
“The number coming through has dropped significantly,” said Gulbanu Kader, director of education at the group of 13 primary and secondary schools in Leicestershire, where vacancies have been advertised and re-advertised this term, but remain unfilled.
To bridge the gaps, its schools would be forced to rely on temporary “supply” teachers and non-specialists who were not specifically qualified to teach particular subjects, added Kader.
