Britain’s most advanced armoured fighting vehicle has been declared safe and ready for deployment, after a procurement process punctuated by years of delay, cost overruns and trials during which some soldiers suffered long-term hearing damage.
“What we can say is those issues are firmly in the past,” said Luke Pollard, minister for defence procurement, during a Wednesday visit to the General Dynamics plant in Wales that produces the Ajax.
The sophisticated military vehicle was due to be operational five years ago but its rollout was delayed, partly over safety concerns.
