Argentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei has been dealt a stinging blow in elections in Buenos Aires, the country’s largest province, as voters questioned his reform programme and a corruption scandal ahead of midterm polls next month.
The Peronist Fuerza Patria coalition won 46.9 per cent of the vote in the province on Sunday with more than 80 per cent of votes counted, outpacing Milei’s Libertad Avanza at 33.9 per cent.
Pre-election polls and market watchers had anticipated a tight race or a narrow government loss.
