The Swiss government has denounced Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 39 per cent tariff on the country, a steep rate that sent the Swiss franc sliding on Friday and left lawmakers in “shock” at how to respond.
Switzerland’s government said the move was of “great regret” despite its efforts to engage the US in constructive negotiations.
“It is unclear what the US wants from us,” said one Swiss lawmaker, who added it was fair to say the government was in a “state of shock”.
