Canada will join Britain and France in recognising a Palestinian state in September, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced.
The decision, which comes amid international condemnation of growing levels of starvation in Gaza, makes Canada the latest G7 country to champion Palestinian statehood as pressure grows on Israel to end its offensive in the enclave.
“Canada has long been committed to a two-state solution, an independent, viable and sovereign Palestinian state, living side by side with the state of Israel in peace and security,” Carney said at a press conference on Wednesday.
