South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix generated record earnings to outpace rival Samsung for a second quarter in providing high-end memory products for the artificial intelligence boom.
The memory chipmaker, a leading supplier to US AI leader Nvidia, reported a second-quarter operating profit of Won9.2tn ($6.7bn) on Thursday, up 68 per cent on the same three-month period last year.
Record revenue of Won22.2tn ($16.1bn), up 35 per cent on the same quarter last year, exceeded analysts’ forecasts compiled by Yonhap Infomax of Won20.6tn. Its operating margin increased from 33 per cent to 41 per cent over the same period.
